A building is a promise that has to stand for a hundred years. We keep design and construction in one studio so that promise survives the gap between drawing and concrete.

SHORTO was founded in Rotterdam in 2001 by three architects who were tired of handing their drawings to contractors they never met again. The first project was a single school in Utrecht; the client came back for two more.

Over two decades the studio grew into a practice of 140 people across three offices, but the structure has not changed: the people who design a building also build it. That is the whole argument of the firm.
